In 2019, Anna Lundqvist was hired to serve on the jury for the ‘Jazz e Música Moderna da Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa’, One of the students was drummer Maria Carvalho. Anna was immediately impressed by the young student and decided to stay in touch with Maria through social media during the Covid pandemic, when Anna wasn’t able to be in Portugal for a while.

Fast forward to 2023, Anna invited Maria for coffee and suggested they start a new project together. A band in which they would be the only core members, with all other musicians decided on a concert-by-concert basis. Maria agreed, and in February 2024 they gave their first concert at Casa do Comum in Lisbon.

The music they perform is original material mixed with modern jazz that aligns with both European and American traditions.

The goal is to initiate a new form of collaboration, making music with musicians of all ages and genres/styles of jazz. The long term goal is to work between the two countries, Sweden and Portugal, but also in the rest of Europe and their musicians and institutions.
